MAA Rec Announcement

Merton Athletic Association Families,

Thank you for your patience and support during this unforeseen situation. It is with a heavy heart that the Merton Athletic Association (MAA) is announcing the cancellation of the 2020 MAA Recreational baseball and softball seasons due to issues resulting from the Covid-19 situation. This includes our Broncos, Ponies and Coach Pitch/T-ball programs.  We know that our families will be disappointed in this decision and we are also.  Please know this decision was not an easy decision to make and we spent many hours trying hard to make this season happen by working with many partners across the community.  The guiding principles we used to make this decision included: the health and safety of you and your kids, logistics of running a season, and the overall baseball/softball experience we would provide.  The issues we ran into were field availability, sanitization processes, social distancing requirements, the need to limit mass gatherings to groups of fewer than 50 people, no concessions, and major changes to the overall experience for you and your kids.  Also, you will likely see different communities making different decisions, please know that all communities are in different situations with regard to field availability and local municipality rules.  We know that this decision affects your family and we understand every family will react differently to the news.  We hope that our transparency and pro-active approach ensures your families that we take the health and safety of your players in the highest regard.  MAA will be providing 100% refunds by July 1st (we are aiming for sooner) to the original credit card used at registration.  We are looking forward to fielding your players in 2021 and wish your families a healthy and safe summer.

Sincerely,

The Merton Athletic Association Board
